This collaboration was a quick hit. In only 30 minutes an intriguing masterpiece appeared.
A photograph of an unknown subject was cut into 12 pieces. Each piece was only 100 x 100mm which when put together formed a painting 300 x 400mm.
As the 12 artists finished their part of the painting, it was added to the mosaic and a cat appeared. Have a look at the original picture compared to the collaboration The cat is a little fatter as I stretched the image to fit the 300mm x 400mm shape.
This exercise shows the value of tackling small sections of a painting especially when you have become lost.
The idea is that each painting consists of 9 panels and that 9 artists paint one of the panels. The combined effort can be quite surprising.
A range of subject matter has been tackled this way. All paintings are 450mm x 600mm painted with acrylic on canvas.
The new project is to paint a mural style painting to hang behind the bar where we hold our classes. It is larger than normal at 800mm x 1000mm with the grid spacings at 200 x 200.
The subject matter is the final charge to the winning post at the local races. It will probably be all about horses and hats.

The new challenge is to do two interpretations of the painting "Scream" by Edmund Muns. The difference being is that we are doing them as finger paintings.
I think this is the beginnings of a portrait of Karen.
Karen is loving the finger-painting exercise.

This is the original composition. Shirley and Bruce so far. |
This new piece doesn't mean anything yet. So far Bruce has done the background while Deb has placed her interpretation as the first collaborator.
Sarah has challenged Bruce to add a layer to this painting.
The current project is a portrait of Shirley.
