When you get stuck on a painting Elwin suggests that you take your "pencil for a walk" stand back and have a look before before starting again. His own work captures joy in his depiction of multiple small people enjoying a carnival or concert while other works are mort abstract with mythical creatures Penny Craig Enjoys painting seascapes around Scotts Head. Lately Penny has been painting forest/bushland scenes. Margaret Usher Our very own version of Margaret Olley. The two have a similar style as well as a similar name. Has recently been dabbling with animal caricatures. Bruce Redman Has a technical background in engineering so he likes a straight line in his works. Of recent times has taken to portraits. Movember In July 2022

  2022 Movember in July Art Exhibition Thursday 7th July to Sunday 17th July 2022 The Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery held an art exhibition called Movember in July. The exhibition is on display at the gallery in Gladstone. It is a non competitive event designed to raise funds to help address the issues of men’s health. In keeping with the theme it is only open to men. This year two members of the Bowraville Racecourse Art Group submitted paintings. Both Elwin Butler and Bruce Redman made available three paintings each. All entry fees will be donated to the Movember Foundation. Exhibition terms and conditions:  All work must be the original work of the artist. All artwork must be presented ready for hanging on the galleries hanging system, D-rings 75mm from the top of larger works or 35mm from the top of smaller works.   Wendy Sharpe is one of Australia’s most acclaimed artists, she lives and works in Sydney and Paris. She has been awarded The Sulman Prize, two Travelling Scholarships, The Portia Geach Memorial Award (twice), The Archibald Prize, and many others. She has been a finalist in The Sulman Prize thirteen times, and The Archibald Prize eight times. She has held over 65 solo exhibitions around Australia and internationally. Major commissions include, Olympic pool size mural for Cook and Philip Park Aquatic Centre, Sydney, a commission by the Australian War Memorial, as an Australian Official Artist to East Timor (the first woman since WWII). She has a great interest in the performing arts.   Ben Quilty Biography Known for his expressive impasto portraiture, Ben Quilty is a prominent Australian artist who has served as Australia's official war artist, and often works to draw attention to humanitarian and social crises. Early Years Born in  Sydney  in 1973, Ben Quilty attended the Sydney College of the Arts at Sydney University, graduating with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in painting in 1994. Subsequently he attained a Certificate in Aboriginal Culture & History from Monash University in 1996, and a Bachelor of Visual Communications from the University of Western Sydney in 2001. Quilty's made his art scene debut in 2002 with his 'Torana' paintings, painterly depictions of the artists beloved LJ Torana. Paintings of the car, with the cultural value and personal memories attached to it, served as a vehicular self-portrait for the artist.
